CollaBrewate started with a simple idea of a place for brewing, literally and figuratively: A meeting place where people can come and “brew” ideas, drink their favorite beverage, while collaborating with others.
Here at CollaBrewate, we are always thinking outside of the box and trying to come up with new ideas and a better way of doing things. Every skill, no matter how small it may seem, is so much more involved than what meets the eye. When we are open minded to learn from others and collaborate, we can actually tap into these skills and what it takes to do them, therefore expand our horizons.
One thing we’ve discovered is that you should never accept something the way it is, just because…that’s the way it is or the way we know it to be. There needs to be good reason for it, or it needs to make you truly happy. If you want to make a change, work hard and make it happen. If you see a different future for yourself, we challenge you to do something, even just one thing, every day that will move you further to that future. We believe that we can live a passionate life, and we can do something to help the world, even if it’s just one person. We can’t pretend to have it all figured out, and we are working toward the future that we see for ourselves. Join us along our journey!
Person to person, maker to maker, we want to create change. If we collaborate and learn from each other, we can make change. We are a husband and wife creative team and working to grow into a community of makers, thinkers, and doers! Contact us today if you are willing to share your expertise and join us in an adventure, an adventure to CollaBrewate!
We like to have Project Days when possible, where we get together and make stuff! Subscribe with your e-mail address to keep up to date and to hear about when our next meet-up will be.
Stay up to date!
Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Inventor, Visionary, & Maker
Derrick was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He’s always had a can-do attitude. Being naturally gifted at art, he can draw from imagination and frequently had others asking him to draw one of their ideas, always thinking, “I can do that!” Ever since he was five, his family moved every three years. His father joined the Army as a Chaplain. So life took them all over the place. Derrick was always making or doing something.
Sling shots were Derrick’s biggest trouble makers, but origami trumped all of his creations. It began from a single crane he was given, that he ended up carefully unfolding and refolding to figure out how it was made.
…Figuring out how things are made and how they work, working with your hands, building something from scratch. These things are what truly inspires Derrick to make things and collaborate with others. He has an inventive mind and knows there is always something new to discover.
Derrick's life led him to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he majored in Graphic Design. He's traveled the world and loves experiencing and learning all that he can. Through art and making, his exploration is limitless. He's always working on something new!
Fine Artist, Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Crafter, & Maker
Lauren was born and raised in Winter Haven, Florida. She has always marched to the beat of her own drum and is an adventurer of sorts. Growing up, if she wasn’t drawing, playing sports, or earning Girl Scout Awards (many memorable ones while camping), then she was climbing a tree or racing her bike around with her cousin pretending they were riding horses! She strives on being different and loving what you truly love, no matter what society says.
Lauren went to high school at Lois Cowles Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, in Lakeland, Florida, and played volleyball and tennis (and one year of basketball) on Lakeland High School’s teams. Harrison was the truest beginning of her art career.
After graduating, Lauren attended Polk Community College on a volleyball scholarship, while majoring in Fine Art and playing on Polk’s tennis team as well. She then transferred as a junior to Palm Beach Atlantic University, to major in Fine Art with a minor in Religious Studies, while continuing to play collegiate tennis.
Learning about and experiencing different cultures has changed Lauren’s worldview. She loves to learn from others and their experiences, whether it's through food, making, or sharing ideas, the sky is the limit.
Lauren has an eye for details (borderline perfectionist) and has always loved making things with her hands and helping people. Having the opportunity to do these things with CollaBrewate is a dream come true.
Derrick and Lauren met from having three art classes together at Palm Beach Atlantic University. It seemed almost inevitable, considering we were both art majors in a small art department. From the first day of meeting, we hung out (almost) every day from then on. Fast forward to now, we’ve moved from West Palm Beach, Florida, where we were for a year while Derrick finished college; Savannah, Georgia for only another year; then decided to venture down to central Florida in search of furthering our careers and being closer to family. We've had different jobs throughout the years, and they've always fed our creative passions to some degree, but we wanted change.
After eight years for Derrick and five and a half years for Lauren at an office job, we finally realized that we needed to make more time for the important things in life and decided to take action. We needed more flexibility. We needed more time for doing the things we love and spending time with those we love. We have to be honest that we were not saving enough and living pretty frivolously with our cushy jobs but realized we didn’t have enough time or energy for anything else. So, we cut our monthly expenses way down in looking to the future of not relying so much on money and more on passion. Once we had several months of expenses saved up, we left our jobs and started working full time on our own. We were making BIG changes. We realized that our lifestyle did not match who we are. So, we have a house to sell, a lot of minimizing and organizing to do, and dreams of building a Studio and social space for CollaBrewate!
